One Post Opened a Distribution Negotiation

August 4, 2026

A single Korean cleansing cream ended up on a distribution negotiation table after a local influencer featured it.

Backstory

The UAE is a market crowded with imported brands. Expat consumers tend to keep buying brands they already know, and competition for offline shelf space is fierce.

A new brand doesn't earn trust just by running ads. For a consumer seeing a product for the first time, someone they know actually using it is more concrete evidence than a brand's own claims.

What changed

KOTRA's UAE country guide includes the case of a Korean company ("B") and its cleansing cream. An Iranian-heritage beauty influencer featured the product. As word of mouth spread, an Iranian-heritage beauty distributor in Dubai expressed interest in discussing an exclusive agency arrangement.

The key point isn't that a deal was finalized. It's the flow: influencer content generated consumer response, and that response drew a distributor's interest.

A single piece of content didn't stop at ad views — it became a market signal.

Reading between the lines

Expats make up 88.5% of the UAE population. Rather than casting a wide net for "Middle East influencers," it's more effective to find people connected to the specific group who will actually buy the product.

It's also worth noting that the Iranian-heritage influencer connected with an Iranian-heritage distributor. The connection across language and cultural community can matter more than follower count. You also need to look at how the buying group connects to the distribution network.

So don't sort your outreach list by follower count alone. Look at the language of comments and the typical price range discussed. Also check viewer region, past collaborations, and response to purchase links.

A closer look

To turn an influencer campaign into a gateway to distribution, you need to capture four things:

  • Concrete scenes of the product in use
  • Engagement such as saves, comments, and link clicks
  • Reusable content rights
  • A purchase path leading to local retailers

With these four in hand, you're no longer just telling a buyer "we did some promotion." You can show exactly which consumer group responded, and how.

What happens next

Influencer marketing in the UAE is shifting away from a reach-driven race and toward connecting content with sales. Brands need to build up a record of which product message resonated with which group, rather than counting posts.

For your next campaign, don't just look for one big account. Test the same product across different consumer segments. Reuse the messages that perform well in product pages and ads.
